Proactive school-wide discipline systems create environments in which: a) learning and teaching are valued, and aggressive, unsafe behavior are discouraged; b) respect, responsibility, cooperation, and other highly valued character traits are taught and encouraged; c) individual differences are valued rather than criticized; d) educating students with disabilities can be supported more effectively and efficiently, and e) teaching fundamental skills like reading and math can be maximized. School Wide Information System (SWIS) is a web-based software system for collecting and summarizing office discipline referrals in schools. Developed by the University of Oregon, it provides schools with accurate, efficient, practical information for decision making about school-wide discipline.School-wide Approaches to Behavior is an OSEP, IDEAS that Work fact sheet with an introduction, rationale, key principles and section for more information about school-wide approaches to behavior. This fact sheet was developed in conjunction with the PBIS TA Center and is available to download as a PDF document.The University of Oregon provides numerous resources on Effective Behavior Support, including introductory information, research to practice summaries and a data-based decision making model.
